EARTHQUAKE!

Mama's Losin' It

EARTHQUAKE! Where were you when it happened?

So I recently experienced my very first EARTHQUAKE.  It was a magnitude 5.0 and lasted about 20 seconds.

I was actually sitting on the couch just blogging on my laptop.  It was quiet, I didn't have music, tv or anything else on.

The first thing I noticed was the closed door behind me creaking.  I thought maybe my cat was shut into the room and she might of be trying to get out.  But it was to loud and strong for her to be doing that.

Then I realized the couch I was sitting on was moving!!!  It felt like someone was behind it and pushing it forward.  A little bit back and forth.

I heard the a low rumble and was looking out the window to see if it was a tornado or even a big truck to explain all that was happening.  Nothing!

It seemed longer than just 20 seconds.

When it was through I opened the creaking door...no one in there...I walked outside...nothing...I walked to the kitchen, my cat was sleeping in there.

That is when I started to get really mad.  Yes mad.  Cause I was totally convinced it was a ghost.  Yes a ghost.  I was mad because we have been living in this house for almost 2 years and have never had any ghostly encounters before.  And I was confused why it was trying to get me off the couch.  I was thinking I am not doing anything wrong???   And at the same time I was thinking no one is going to believe my story.  Nobody!  I sat on the couch and tried to make it move...it wouldn't budge.  Then the phone rang.

When I answered I could over hear my hubby talking to his boss...He felt it too!  Yes, it was an EARTHQUAKE,  not a silly ghost who wanted me off the couch.

Boy did I feel silly!

  2. Stopping by from Mama Kat's. :-) During one of the recent earthquakes we had here - I could feel it, but my husband couldn't and he kept telling me it wasn't happening. I told him that either we were having an earthquake or I was having a stroke or something!! I looked it up and sure enough... Earthquake!

  3. Earthquakes are crazy things! I've lived through my fair share being a California native, but I don't dig them. I hope I never have to live through the much awaited "big one" that's always being predicted.

    Writer's workshop visiting. peace. ;)

  4. The only time I ever felt an earthquake I thought it was an airplane flying low! Like you I was mad... it woke me up!

  5. That is too, too funny! I love that you tried to move the sofa yourself after walking around the house! I love earthquakes. Not huge, distructive ones obviously but a little shaking is fun!

  11. Whew! I was born and lived a few years in California, and I still remember diving into the doorway when I was 4 years old. About 10 years later when I was at a restaurant with my mom, the industrial dishwasher started up and shook the floor and the walls, and my mom shrieked and dove under the table!! She thought it was an earthquake (in the mideast), and we had to explain to the tables around us that she wasn't crazy!

That is the best description of the earthquake encounter I have heard yet!!!

My family felt it too, we're about 40 kms away from the epicentre so we had a bit of damage but nothing serious and no injuries thank-goodness!

Thanks for coming by my site, I'm enjoying reading your posts!!
